Fighting Seabed Mining
We have the opportunity to stop one of the most destructive industries before it even starts. Seabed mining is unproven and would tear up vast stretches of the sea floor for minerals, threatening the balance of the entire ocean and atmosphere. It has never operated commercially anywhere, but that's about to change, as the US moves to sell mining leases in its own and international waters.
Overstories is incubating a corporate campaign alongside The Oxygen Project to stop this before it starts. Our role is to target the corporate actors, while working alongside frontline communities and digital advocacy, applying pressure across policy, markets and investors to make seabed mining commercially unviable before the first project ever gets off the ground.
